Everything Kept does, for the person running an event and for the guests holding the cameras.
Kept turns everyone at your event into a disposable camera. You create a roll, guests join by scanning a code, and each of them gets 36 shots. Nobody sees a single photograph, including you, until the roll develops at a time you choose. Then every photo from every guest opens at once.
It is deliberately unlike a shared album. There is no live feed to watch during dinner, and nothing to scroll while the speeches are happening.
Open Kept and create a roll. You set four things:
Setting develop later than close is useful if you want the roll to open the next morning rather than as guests are leaving.
Every roll gets a six-character code and a link at
kept.film/f/CODE. Open the invite sheet for a QR code you can
screenshot, print, or hold up.
Codes deliberately avoid characters people confuse when reading aloud or copying off a card, so there is no 0 or O, no 1 or I or L, no 5 or S, and no 8 or B.
Places that work well:
You can develop a roll before its scheduled time from the roll screen. This is immediate and cannot be undone. Everyone on the roll sees the photos as soon as you do.
If more people arrive than you planned for, raise the guest limit from your phone. Everyone already shooting is unaffected and nobody loses shots.
Point your phone camera at the QR code and tap the banner. On an iPhone, Kept opens as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everywhere else it opens in your browser.
Type any name you like. It appears beside your photos and does not have to be your real one.
You get 36 shots. There is no preview, no retake, and no way to delete a photo once taken, which is the entire point. Press the shutter and it is gone into the roll.
The counter in the corner shows which frame you are on. When it reaches zero, your roll is finished, but you can still see everyone else's photos once it develops.
Shots upload in the background. If the venue's wifi is poor you can keep shooting - photos catch up when the signal does.
When the roll develops, every photo from every guest appears at once. Tap Export to save the whole set to your camera roll.
Your place on a roll lives in a token on your phone. If you lose the phone or delete the app without making an account, you lose access. Create a free account and you can return to any roll from any device.
Worth being precise about, because it is the difference between Kept and every shared album.
Before a roll develops, the server does not send photo addresses to anyone. The photos are not delivered and then hidden behind a blur or a tap. They are never transmitted at all. Inspecting network traffic reveals a list of names and frame numbers and nothing else.
This applies to everyone equally, including the host and the person who took the photograph. The only way to see anything early is for the host to develop the whole roll.
One-time, per event, by how many guests can join. Nothing renews and nothing charges again when the roll develops.
Unlimited shots ($6.99) removes the 36-frame cap for every guest on the roll.
Purchases go through the App Store or Google Play. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies, not by us.
Nothing is deleted on a schedule. Save anything you want permanent access to in the first few months.
Print it at least 3cm across, and avoid glossy card under direct light. Anyone can also type the six-character code at kept.film instead.
Photos upload in the background, so a shot taken as someone left the venue may still have been in flight. They land when the phone next has signal. If the app was force-closed mid-upload, that frame is lost, the same as a mis-wound film.
Without an account there is no way to restore their place on the roll, since the token lived on the device. Their photos are safe and still appear on the roll for everyone else. Encourage guests to make an account before they leave.
Guests who joined but took no photos do not appear in the grid. The people count on the roll screen includes them.
