Before you start

You need a rough headcount, a photo of the two of you, and a decision about when the roll should develop. Most couples choose the morning after. If you are planning on Vowesta, the roll is created from your wedding details in one tap and you can skip to step four.

The steps

  1. 01

    Create the roll

Go to kept.film/host and sign in with your email or phone. A one-time code, no password. Tap Start a new film. Name it what guests should see on the join screen, for example “Rivera Wedding”.

  2. 02

    Add a cover photo

It fills the join screen behind the name. An engagement photo works well. It is the first thing guests see after scanning.

  3. 03

Set when it closes and when it develops

Close is when shooting stops. Set it for when the bar shuts. Develop is when the photos open. Set it for the next morning, say 9 am, so the reveal lands over breakfast. Develop cannot be earlier than close.

  4. 04

    Choose guest capacity

Pick the tier that covers your headcount, rounded up. Free for 5, one-time prices up to $69.99 for unlimited. You can raise it on the day from your phone. It never goes down.

  5. 05

    Download the code

Tap Download code for a print-ready QR. Every roll also has a six-character code guests can type at kept.film. Codes skip letters people misread.

  6. 06

    Print it where people sit

One per seat on the place card or menu gets the highest join rate. Add a framed card at the bar and one by the guest book. Print at least 3cm across on matte card.

  7. 07

Say it once on the day

Have the officiant, MC or a parent mention the code early. One sentence doubles the join rate. Tell people nothing is visible until morning, so they stop checking.

  8. 08

    Let it develop

At the time you set, every photo from every guest opens for everyone at once. Each guest can save the whole roll in one tap. You can develop early from your phone if you want, and it opens for everyone.

The decisions, explained

FeatureRecommendationWhy
Develop timeNext morningThe reveal is a second event. Have it when people are awake and together, not in the taxi.
Unlimited shotsUsually not36 is what makes people choose. A small wedding that wants every frame is the exception.
CapacityHeadcount, rounded upRaise it on the day if needed. Capacity only goes up.
Code placementEvery seatPeople read what is in front of them when they sit down.

After the wedding

Export the roll within the first few months. Nothing is deleted on a schedule, but photos move to deep archive after 120 days and take 12 to 48 hours to retrieve. Encourage guests to create a free account after the reveal so they can return to the roll from any device.

Questions

Do I need the Kept app to host?
No. The host console at kept.film/host works in any browser. The app has the same controls. Buying at kept.film goes through Stripe rather than an app store.
Can I change the develop time after creating the roll?
Yes, from the roll screen, as long as it is not earlier than the close time. You can also develop the roll immediately from your phone. That cannot be undone.
What if the QR code will not scan?
Print it at least 3cm across and avoid glossy card under direct light. Anyone can also type the six-character code at kept.film.
Do guests need to download an app to use Kept?
No. Guests scan the QR code, type a name, and the camera opens. On an iPhone it launches as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everything else it runs in the browser.
Can the host see the photos before everyone else?
No. Before a roll develops the server does not send photo addresses to anyone, including the host and the person who took the picture. The host can choose to develop the roll early, which opens it for everyone at once.
How much does Kept cost?
Free for up to 5 guests. Larger films are a one-time price for the event, from $1.29 for 10 guests to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Nothing renews. An Unlimited Shots add-on for $6.99 removes the 36-frame cap for everyone on the roll.

Give everyone a camera. Take away the screen.

Free for your first 5 guests. Your first roll takes about a minute to set up, and nobody has to install anything.
