Where they agree

Both start from the same insight: guests will not install an app for one night. POV’s FAQ says it “uses App Clips on iOS and a web-based experience on Android” so guests join “without having to download an app from the App Store”. Kept does the same. Both let a host share a QR code or link, both give guests a camera with a shot counter, and both are aimed first at weddings.

The reveal is the real difference

POV gives the host a choice: reveal during the event, or make guests wait. It also lets the host review and delete photos at any time, which means the host can see photos before guests can. That is a reasonable design for a host who wants to curate.

Kept removes the choice on purpose. Nobody sees anything until the roll develops, including the host and the person who took the picture, because the server does not send photo addresses before then. There is no host view and no deleting. What you get is the unedited night, and a reveal that is the same moment for everyone. If you want to curate before guests see the photos, POV is built for that and Kept is not. How Kept enforces this.

Fixed roll or host-set cap

POV lets the host choose how many photos each guest can take. Kept fixes it at 36, the same as a film disposable, with a single add-on that lifts the cap for the whole roll. The fixed number is deliberate: guests who know the limit choose their shots, and a roll where everyone had the same 36 reads as a roll rather than a dump.

Pricing shape

POV’s free tier is more generous at the small end: 10 guests to Kept’s 5. Above that, POV sells “More Participants” as in-app purchases from $4.99 to $89.99, with the guest count for each on their pricing page. Kept is one payment per event by guest count, and the whole list fits below. Buying Kept at kept.film goes through Stripe rather than an app store, which is part of why the prices are what they are.

Which to pick

  • Pick POV if you want to see and curate photos before guests do, want a live slideshow during the event, or want a reveal during the party.
  • Pick Kept if you want a reveal nobody can peek at, including you, a fixed 36-shot roll like real film, every guest getting the whole roll, and one price for the night.

Questions

Is Kept the same as POV?
No. Both are disposable camera apps for events with QR join and no guest download. POV lets the host choose when photos reveal and review or delete them at any time. Kept withholds photos from everyone, including the host, until the roll develops, fixes each guest at 36 shots, and opens the developed roll to every guest.
Does POV let the host see photos before guests?
Per POV's own site, the host can review and delete guests' photos at any time, which means yes. In Kept the host cannot see photos before the develop time.
Which is cheaper, Kept or POV?
It depends on guest count. POV is free for up to 10 guests; Kept is free for up to 5. Above that Kept is a one-time price from $1.29 to $69.99 for unlimited guests. POV's in-app purchases run from $4.99 to $89.99 and the guest count for each tier is on their pricing page.
Do guests need to download an app to use Kept?
No. Guests scan the QR code, type a name, and the camera opens. On an iPhone it launches as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everything else it runs in the browser.
Can the host see the photos before everyone else?
No. Before a roll develops the server does not send photo addresses to anyone, including the host and the person who took the picture. The host can choose to develop the roll early, which opens it for everyone at once.
How much does Kept cost?
Free for up to 5 guests. Larger films are a one-time price for the event, from $1.29 for 10 guests to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Nothing renews. An Unlimited Shots add-on for $6.99 removes the 36-frame cap for everyone on the roll.
