Two different jobs

Guestpix describes itself as “Private QR Code Photo Sharing & Digital Guestbook”. Guests “just scan & upload” and “everyone will instantly enjoy the memories”. It collects the photos and videos your guests took with their own cameras, shows them on a live slideshow, and gives the host a full-resolution download. It is very good at that.

Kept does not collect photos guests took. It gives them a different camera: 36 shots, no preview, no deleting, and a roll that develops for everyone at once after the event. The QR code is where the similarity ends.

Which to pick

  • Pick Guestpix if you want a live slideshow at the reception, video as well as photos, a digital guestbook, and a curated gallery of your guests’ favourites afterwards.
  • Pick Kept if you want guests off their screens, photos nobody chose or edited, and a single moment the next morning when everyone opens the same roll.
  • Run both if you want both. Plenty of couples put the upload link on the wedding website and the Kept code on the tables.

Questions

Is Kept a Guestpix alternative?
For some events. If what you want from Guestpix is collecting guest photos into a gallery with a live slideshow, Kept does not do that. If what you want is a disposable camera experience with a hidden roll and a shared reveal, Kept does that and Guestpix does not.
Can guests upload photos or video to Kept?
No. Every frame on a Kept roll was shot through Kept, with no preview and no deleting. Kept does not take video.
Which is cheaper, Kept or Guestpix?
For most events Kept costs less: free for up to 5 guests and one-time from $1.29 to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Guestpix's paid plans are one-time from $49 to $119, with a free plan limited to 50 photos. They also do different things, so price is rarely the deciding factor.
Do guests need to download an app to use Kept?
No. Guests scan the QR code, type a name, and the camera opens. On an iPhone it launches as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everything else it runs in the browser.
Can the host see the photos before everyone else?
No. Before a roll develops the server does not send photo addresses to anyone, including the host and the person who took the picture. The host can choose to develop the roll early, which opens it for everyone at once.
How much does Kept cost?
Free for up to 5 guests. Larger films are a one-time price for the event, from $1.29 for 10 guests to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Nothing renews. An Unlimited Shots add-on for $6.99 removes the 36-frame cap for everyone on the roll.
