What Lapse is

Lapse’s site says it is “an app which turns your iPhone into a disposable camera”, that it is “currently iOS only”, and that “you can only join if you have friends on Lapse or you invite yours”. It is “totally free” and says it does not run ads or sell data. Photos take time to develop and land in a friends-only feed. The tagline is “Friends not followers”.

Using it for an event

Lapse is a personal camera inside a friends network. Everyone who shoots needs the app, an iPhone, and an invite. There is no event roll, no QR code for guests, no Android, and no host controls, as far as Lapse’s own pages describe. A reviewer on its App Store listing asks for a collaborative album feature, which is a fair summary of the gap.

Questions

Does Lapse work on Android?
Not as of the date on this page. Lapse's website says it is currently iOS only. Kept works on Android through the browser and on iPhone through an App Clip.
Can wedding guests use Lapse without an invite?
Lapse's site says you can only join if you have friends on Lapse or invite yours, and everyone needs the app. Kept guests scan a code and shoot with no app or account.
Do guests need to download an app to use Kept?
No. Guests scan the QR code, type a name, and the camera opens. On an iPhone it launches as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everything else it runs in the browser.
Can the host see the photos before everyone else?
No. Before a roll develops the server does not send photo addresses to anyone, including the host and the person who took the picture. The host can choose to develop the roll early, which opens it for everyone at once.
How much does Kept cost?
Free for up to 5 guests. Larger films are a one-time price for the event, from $1.29 for 10 guests to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Nothing renews. An Unlimited Shots add-on for $6.99 removes the 36-frame cap for everyone on the roll.
