Why a disposable camera for a trip

A shared album on a trip becomes a place people check instead of looking out of the window. A roll that will not open until morning removes the temptation. You shoot, you put the phone away, and at breakfast everyone finds out what the day looked like to everyone else.

Kept works with no signal. Shots queue on the phone and upload when it finds wifi, so a day in the mountains develops fine that evening at the hotel.

Where to put the code

  • The group chat, each evening. One link joins everyone for the next day.

From running it

  • Set a rule: one roll, 36 shots, no talking about what you shot. It holds for about two days and the breaking of it is part of the trip.
  • The Unlimited Shots add-on is tempting on a trip. Resist it for at least the first day. The limit is what makes people choose.
  • Export each roll the morning it develops. It is one tap and it means the trip is on everyone’s phone before the flight home.

What it costs

One payment for the event, by how many guests can join. Free for up to 5 guests. Capacity only goes up, so start with the number you expect and add on the night if more arrive.

Questions

Does Kept work without signal?
Yes. Shots are queued on the phone and upload in the background when the signal returns. The roll develops at the time you set, and any shots still uploading appear as they arrive.
Can one roll cover a whole trip?
It can. Set the roll to close on the last day and develop that evening. Most groups prefer a roll a day for the daily reveal, and each roll of up to 5 people is free.
Do guests need to download an app to use Kept?
No. Guests scan the QR code, type a name, and the camera opens. On an iPhone it launches as an App Clip, a small temporary version of the app that needs no App Store download. On Android and everything else it runs in the browser.
Can the host see the photos before everyone else?
No. Before a roll develops the server does not send photo addresses to anyone, including the host and the person who took the picture. The host can choose to develop the roll early, which opens it for everyone at once.
How much does Kept cost?
Free for up to 5 guests. Larger films are a one-time price for the event, from $1.29 for 10 guests to $69.99 for unlimited guests. Nothing renews. An Unlimited Shots add-on for $6.99 removes the 36-frame cap for everyone on the roll.

Give everyone a camera. Take away the screen.

Free for your first 5 guests. Your first roll takes about a minute to set up, and nobody has to install anything.
